Puzzle Piece Table Seats

Looking for a new way to help place your students in new groups? Take a look at this fun idea!
Happening today in Cathy’s classroom:

My student teachers had a great idea for my classroom today that I thought I would share!

Our students were in need of new table seats.  My student teachers created the groups and then put student names on a large piece of construction paper.  Each name on the paper was written in the same color.

Because we have six tables, there were six papers, each written with a different color of marker.

My student teachers then cut apart the construction paper into puzzle shaped pieces.

They gave each student their piece and students had to find their group.

The kids LOVED this idea!

They had so much fun and when they were together in their new groups, my student teachers had each group make a name for their table and they introduced the idea of table points to encourage good behavior.

This was an engaging activity that got the students excited about something that can be a hassle. It started students off in their new groups with an activity that encouraged them to cooperate. What a great start!

As an extension, you could have your students decorate their completed puzzles to hang as a table group sign.
