Using menu math can be a way to engage your students in a new way during math instruction. You will find task cards, a menu and recording pages.
We teamed up with VariQuest to create a menu math center that is perfect for problem solving with money.
This collection is geared towards 4th and 5th grade students. This collection includes a menu along with 16 word problem cards and 20 math task cards. These can be used as an independent math center or students can complete tasks in small groups.
We have found that menu math activities can be a fun alternative to traditional worksheets while still giving students needed computation practice.
We like to print our centers on card stock and laminate for durability. Laminating will also allow students to be able to circle key words using vis a vis markers or make other notes and erase when finished.
As an extension, have students create their own menu math problems to go with the included menu. Encourage them to use the math skills you are studying in the class. This is a great way to weave problem solving with math skills and writing!
Have other great ideas for using the menu or extending the lesson? Please share below so that other teachers can benefit from your ideas as well!
You will find these resources free on VariQuest’s blog. Just like the resources provided on our site, these resources are free from VariQuest.
