Use these task cards as a center activity to practice multiplying decimals or as a SCOOT game.
Multiplying decimals by 10, 100 and 1000 is many times a skill that is taught with the expectations that students will use mental math to solve the problems. Many times, however, we find that some students need an added level of support and perhaps more practice before moving on to thinking through problems such as this in their minds. (And we know that still some might always need to write the problems down to solve them.)
In order to give students practice with multiplying decimals, we have created a set of 28 task cards. These cards include both number and word problems. We have also included an answer key in case you decide to use these cards at an independent self-check center. We have also provided a few different variations of recording pages in case you need to differentiate for the numbers and types of problems that your individual students need to practice.
Finally, we have added pages to support a SCOOT game with all 28 cards. For this game you would place cards around the room at various locations and students would then take their recording pages and “scoot” to different locations in the room to complete their problems. (This can also be differentiated easily by marking out numbered boxes on specific students’ papers if you only wanted them to do a certain number of or types of problems.)
