This collection of January bellringer questions has been created to help you establish a simple but engaging morning routine.
**You can download this free set of January bellringer questions by clicking on the bold “January Bellringer Questions” links at the bottom of this post. A black & white version has also been provided for those who don’t want the background formatting.**
There is no better time than the new year to start a new routine in your classroom!
Bellringer questions are meant to become part of your students’ daily morning routine. The questions are a simple way to get your students reading and thinking from the moment they enter the room in the morning. EVEN BETTER, they are great discussion starters for your morning meetings or class gatherings in the “family room” (as I used to call the spot in my classroom where we came together to talk).
To use these January bellringer questions, print all the pages in color and laminate them for durability. Cut them apart and then add magnetic tape, sticky tack or whatever works for you so that pieces can be taken down daily and moved around. You will need wall space, such as a white board area, designated for your daily questions.
A “January Questions” sign is part of the collection and can be displayed in the designated spot in your room for this daily question. There is also a collection of response cards including the words you will post underneath each daily question based on how students are supposed to respond. In this collection you will find:
- Yes/No/Maybe Questions
- Always/Sometimes/Never Questions
- Multiple Choice Questions
There is also a download of name cards that you can choose to print for your students. These are editable, so simply type or print & write names on each one, laminate and add magnetic tape/sticky tack to them. (You will need to insert a “text box” into each frame to type names on each card.) Place the cards in a basket or arrange them on the board next to the question somehow. And don’t forget to add your name! Students will love to see how you answer the questions as well!
This set includes 28 bellringer questions that may or may not be centered on the month of January. (Some are just fun questions for students to ponder!) You will also find 16 questions based on nationally designated days in January in the United States. (These days may or may not be “officially” recognized days! Some are just fun calendar days and their origin can’t necessarily be found.)
There are a wide variety of prompts so that you can choose a question for each and every day in January! Because there are 44 question cards total, you will be able to choose what fits your school and class best. We have also included one blank matching template so that you can write some of your own questions if you wish or have students help to come up with questions.

I appreciate all your wonderful resources and the work that went into them. Thank you. I have question/comment, when printing the January Bell Ringers questions the font becomes very difficult to read as it spreads out. Do you have a suggestion on how to print it or a way to change the font? Thank you.

Thanks for letting us know about the issue with printing Tanya! We have changed the size of the PowerPoint slides and hope this fixes the problem. Let us know if you still have trouble when the document prints. :)
