We have created these resources to meet 2nd grade telling time standards. We have included centers along with group activities and practice pages. Below we will share the intentions for each resource – although you may find other ways to use the items included!
Anchor Chart We have provided our telling time anchor chart in a color and a black & white version.
Write the Room – Telling Time Edition There are two versions of this game. One requires you to place clocks around the room. Students will find the clock cards and record the time on their recording pages. For the other version, we have provided times. Students will record the times and then draw in the correct clock hands.
Build a Clock This might be printed and glued into a file folder. Put velcro on the small purple boxes on the clock and then on the back of the hours. Students place the hours in the correct place on the clock.
Show the Minutes This clock is similar to the previous clock. Instead of placing the hours, students will place the minutes around the clock.
Clock Labels These yellow minutes labels can be placed around your classroom clock to help students who are learning to tell time. We have also included the phrases quarter after, half past and quarter til.
Matching Game This pink stars game can be used as a matching or go fish type of game. Students might also sort the cards for an independent practice activity.
I Have, Who Has To play this game, each student is given a card. The person with START HERE on his or her card, begins by reading their card aloud. The student with the answer then reads their card. The game continues until the starter hears his or her time read.
Clock Practice Cut apart the purple cards and place in a stack. Students choose a card and place it at the bottom of their orange clock page. Students will then draw the hands correctly on their clocks.
a.m. / p.m. Sort Students will sort the cards according to when each event happens. You might want to remind students that different events might happen at different times depending on the time of year and each individual student.
Clock Puzzles Students will match the puzzle pieces.
Practice Pages We have created 8 different practice pages for telling time review. The skills addressed are noted at the top.
Exit Tickets Use these exit tickets as needed for check ins throughout your unit of study.
