Best Pencil Sharpener for Teachers

What is the Best Pencil Sharpener for Teachers?

What is the best pencil sharpener for teachers?

How many pencil sharpeners have you gone through since you began teaching? I can’t even count how many times my shiny new pencil sharpener landed in the trash after failing.

I’ve tried all of the rules. What are some of yours?

1. Only teachers can sharpen the pencils. So the thought is, if kids aren’t touching it, it probably won’t get broken. In theory, this one makes sense. However, how much of a pain is it to have to sharpen all of the pencils on your own? This does not seem like a good use of teacher time.

2. No colored pencils in the sharpener. Again, this is another great idea in theory. However, my students have always loved colored pencils. They can draw and color better than with crayons and they aren’t quite as messy as markers. Some students just prefer colored pencils and I get it. If they can’t sharpen them when they break or become dull, they aren’t so useful anymore!

3. No fun pencils in the pencil sharpener! Well, this one I might not be able to give up. The cheap pencils that are wrapped in a fun, plastic design are always a hit with students. But – these do tend to lead to more broken sharpeners than other pencils. The plastic tends to unwrap and jam the sharpener.

Like most other teachers, the ideas I have tried for getting my sharpeners to last longer just are not ideal. Maybe the solution is a better sharpener? I’ve searched and searched and have landed on one that I feel that works better than others.

Which pencil sharpener should I choose?

Here’s my pick for the best pencil sharpener for teachers:

I am so thankful for having such an amazing suite mate. I have no family relatively near me, my daughter, who is amazing lives in Mobile and my mom in Pensacola. I moved to Tampa 5 years ago and at my age you just cant go out and meet those best friends you had growing up. So, I am so thankful for my friend, colleague, and suite mate! she is there for me emotionally, physically, as a colleague and as a true friend. I do not know where I would be if I did not have here. Teaching is my passion, my love, my everything! Sometimes though I just need to breath and remember that I am doing the best that I can. My past and present students are reminders of that everyday and Jessica reminds me of that often.
