This free fantasy or reality card sort is a reading activity that will help your students differentiate between the two.
This fantasy or reality card sort is designed to give your students practice during a literacy center.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find independent tasks to go with your mini-lesson focus.
One time we encounter this struggle in the classroom is when we are learning about different genres.
Finding independent tasks that give the students practice differentiating between genres can be difficult. We created a fantasy and reality card sort to give your students the opportunity to practice the difference between the genres.
You might choose to use this first during a mini-lesson and have the students work with you to sort the cards. You can hand students a card and have them put them on a chart.
Or, place the cards at a center and have students work with their group to sort.
For students who are having a difficult time grasping the concept, these cards could be used during your small group instruction time with your guidance.
As an extension, students can use a sentence for the card sort as a writing prompt. Students can pick their favorite card and use it as a part of a story they are writing.
If students need additional practice, we like the idea of a book sort. Provide students with a basket of books. Students will then divide these books into a group of fantasy books and a group of reality books.
