Graphic Organizer
This printable was designed to focus on the key parts of the electoral process. It is not designed to look at the candidates and their platforms.
As we were reading about elections in my 6th grade room, I began to feel like there was just too much information in what we were reading. I created this organizer to include the parts I felt would help my students understand what we were discussing. There are so many important parts to a presidential election. This organizer fit the texts we had.
I emphasized that this page as for notes only. I did not have students write sentences.
Students will be asked to take notes on the following:
- What are the 3 branches of government in our country? (Color the one that the president is a part of.)
- What are ways a candidate will campaign to earn votes?
- To be eligible to become a president, a person must…
- What are the two main political parties in our country?
- A president will serve a term that is ___ years long.
- Which amendments expanded who can vote in America?
- Why did Native Americas not have the right to vote until 1924 (or later in some states)?
