Introducing Shapes
When you are introducing shapes in your early learning classroom, be sure to give students lots of real life examples.
Have them explore shapes by building with manipulatives.
You can allow them to continue learning by searching the room for shapes.
Next, go on a shape hunt around the school.
They can record their observations in their math journal.
As always, make this learning fun and engaging for your students.
Continue the learning by encouraging students to also go on a shape hunt at home.
This booklet
This booklet contains a cover page and seven pages for students to use when learning about shapes.
To create your booklets, begin by printing the pages front to back on regular copy paper.
Then, cut the pages in half. You will complete the booklets by stacking the pages and stapling on the left.
While working on this book, students will practice the following shapes:
- square
- triangle
- circle
- rectangle
- pentagon
- hexagon
- octagon
On each page, students will begin by tracing the shape. Next, they will trace the word.
Finally, they are asked to identify how many sides and corners the shape has.
